On February 24, 2022, the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops began.
Since then, Russia's war of aggression has continued with increasing severity and destruction. The exact casualty figures are unknown, but it is clear that thousands of people have been killed and even more injured. 13.7 million Ukrainians have left their country since February, according to UNHCR data, and 6.4 have since returned to Ukraine. A total of 6.3 million people have currently fled to neighboring European countries, with more than 7 million fleeing within Ukraine. More than 1.4 million people in eastern Ukraine have no access to running water.
NATO and EU countries adopted comprehensive sanctions against Russia. Ukraine receives humanitarian aid deliveries. Many states, including Germany, are also supplying weapons to defend the country.
The situation in Ukraine is critical and aid is urgently needed.
